Standing on four turned columns meeting platform base of four splayed sabre legs with paterea at the shoulder. Elegant and well proportioned example. Measures 36" wide closed, 58" wide leaves up and 27" deep.

Most interesting library piece from late George III period. Undoubtedly made for the drawing room as a reading and working table but finished beautifully as an aesthetic sofa table format. The solid highly figured Cuban timbers are banded in rosewood and boxwood lined to thumb moulded top over partnered drawers to front and back (one fitted drawer with adjustable writing slope and inkwell). Standing on sabre leg trestle ends terminating in brass toe casters. Has been sympathetically cleaned and waxed retaining all original character inside and out - top quality piece ideal as feature for any period setting and very much usable as a writing desk too. Holland & Son were pretty much the finest London cased cabinet makers of the post Regency period and this davenport would have been commissioned by the elite wealthy of the time for lady of the house. Exterior of stunning burr walnut veneers the lift up leather inset slop which slides forward for knee room and encloses pigeon drawers and secret catch to pop out inkwell and quill tray. Brushing slides and candle slide metamorphically transform the piece to a mini work station and flight of graduated drawers below. Brass gallery back, panel work and crisply moulded throughout. Stunning museum quality piece to add to any prize collection and offered by us at a very keen trade price indeed.

Particularly aesthetic and beautifully preserved George III small proportioned writing desk with very crisp tambour bureau top, opening to reveal fitted interior of leather inset retracting and adjustable sloping work surface and pigeon holes with flanking drawers. Pair of cockbeaded oak lined drawers below, furnished with original brass oval plate handles and standing on fine tapering legs terminating in original brass cup casters. Wonderful Cuban mahogany timbers, superb colour and patination. Truly a very useful collectors piece of fine early English cabinet work. Measures 36" wide x 24" deep.
